This product worked like a champ to transfer all my files and photos from my old Lenovo PC to my new HP ENVY PC. It also transferred most of my programs. I used the customize setting to specify which programs I wanted to transfer. PCmover does an analysis and presents a chart showing which programs are transferable, which are likely transferable and which cannot be transferred, then you can choose which ones you want to transfer. I was able to screen out old programs I no longer used or which were associated with my old Lenovo. One of my"likely" programs did not transfer successfully but over 30 were successful. The downside lies with the instructions: the ones on the printed sheet did not totally match the ones on the disc so I opted to follow the disc and that worked. This also comes with a "free" trial eraser program (that can only be used for a limited time after which you have to buy it) to scrub the hard drive on your old computer . PCmover promotes using it as a routine maintenance tool to remove all traces of unwanted files from your computer. I took advantage of the hard drive erase feature to completely remove everything - operating system, partitions and all files - but it took several days to do this using the 3-pass process. The estimated time for the most secure 7-pass process was 35 weeks for about 2 TB of data!

I'm not an expert on PC transfer kits. I only used this once, since I only had one PC to transfer. Also, I've never used a PC transfer kit before. That being said, once I got it set up it did what the package promised--moved my files and programs from my old Windows XP PC to my new Windows 7 machine.\nInstalling the program wasn't hard, but it was finicky. I got it to install on the first try, but it did require a number of steps first on one PC and then the other and I had to read the instructions carefully.\nThe kit comes with an ethernet cable to connect the old PC and the new one directly. Once everything was installed I only had to start the transfer and wait. The transfer took about 8 hours; this may have been due to my old PC being much slower than the new one.\nThe results were very satisfactory, but they weren't perfect. PCmover transferred my web browser and favorites, but the passwords for many sites didn't make the transition. The same is true for programs that require a serial number for validation. Likely this is due to those sites' and programs' security setup; I don't think this is a flaw in the transfer kit, just something to be aware of.\nAll in all, PCmover isn't perfect, but it saved me a lot of work and it was worth buying.

I have used this software on a previous occasion. It is important to note the limitations of this version of the software:\nIt is designed to transfer Windows settings and programs from an older computer to a new computer. The versions of Windows must be the same between the two computers (i.e. Windows 11 home to Windows 11 home) or there may be file transfer or stability issues. There is no limit to the number of times the files may be transferred between the "parent" and "child" computer however, if the user wishes to move Windows settings to another child (new computer) the user will need to purchase an additional license (several versions of bulk licensing are available depending on need).

Transferring data from an old...
Reviewed on www.bhphotovideo.com·Wesley
Transferring data from an old to a new computer is a bumber. There are so many programs that need to move, so much data. Before the move I went through the old computer and tried to delete old, unused, or redundant data and programs, a daunting task for sure but an opportunity to rid the drive of the unused and out of date information. That done there remains gigabytes of data that needs be moved. The usual method might be transferring what data is needed to an intermediary drive and then downloading and reinstalling the programs that use the information. This program automates most of that chore. I was able to do this without attaching a common cable to the two computers and was able to do the transfer over the home network to which both new and old computers were connected. The program alerted me to a lack of sufficient space on the new C drive so I moved some picture files to a separate drive. All in all this made a usually painful process into one that was just arduous and although I was uncertain about the results when beginning when done I was pleased with what had been transferred. Even the sign in and authentication codes for some programs moved eliminating the need for re installation. I would recommend this program.

I wrestled with a review on this software. In the right situations, it's great, but for my use it largely failed. I was trying to help a coworker move to a new computer - and she uses a software that we can not find install media for. It's been a pain to try to move it to the new computer. So, for a couple of bucks, I thought we'd give this a try. It grabbed 90% of the computer and transitioned it to the new machine, but it missed that needed piece of software. So, if you're only using for ease and you can find install media, I'd say this is worth a try. If you have a problem program that you absolutely must move to a new pc, I will wish you luck, but it might not work.

Big hassle to get started

The three stars are for the overall experience. The software itself, once installed and functioning properly, was 4+ stars.\n\nI ordered this software through Best Buy because it was $10 cheaper than anywhere else. Within two hours of ordering I was sent a link by Best Buy, and that's where the fun began.\n\nThe link didn't work, necessitating an online chat with Best Buy support. That went nowhere, so a call was required. The agent was able to get me a second link, direct from the manufacturer, and that link worked and I installed the software.\n\nRan the software, and it kept getting hung up at the exact same spot on three attempts. Called LapLink support and spent an hour on the phone with the rep, who was unable to solve the problem and sent it to the "escalation team". I was told they would respond in 24 hours...they didn't. Received a cryptic e-mail from their support about how they were unable to duplicate the problem 48 hours later.\n\nCalled LapLink support again and the agent told me they discovered a bug that was causing the exact same problem I was having and had me uninstall/reinstall. After that I was able to run the application and do a full data transfer.\n\nThe entire process took five days from the date of order. I could have transferred the data manually in that time.

I'm a low-vision person, so my primary concern was preserving my Desktop and screen settings, which PCMover did pretty well, although I had to decrease the resolution. Found stuff in a "Windows C" directory with "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)" subdirectories. I had to call Microsoft to get my Contacts moved over. Still trying to get my Screen Savers to function and my "New Mail Notification" to work, among other things. Because I was going from Windows 7 to 10, this was not by no means an "all-inclusive" move. PCMover was a huge help but I'll be "hunting" and "tweaking" for a long time. Still worth the investment.

Only had for one week but so far so good. Added memory myself which wasn't hard to do. Seems to pack a good punch for the money and size takes very little space on my desk. I like all the ports available and the solid state drive. Only issue I have is the fan is pretty loud when it kicks up, but it is also a very small space to dissipate heat from, so it needs to move some air. All in all, it's a good machine so far. Durability remains to be seen but I am hopeful of a long life. I might give a 5 if I knew what the life span was.

Good small PC if you're not doing anything big. If you don't have the best internet, expect very slow downloads. Like, to get set up with just another browser and antivirus took about 2 days total. Here's a tip: get a flash/thumb drive or SD card, put any browser or extras you want from a faster place, use that to get your programs to the new PC. Once things are actually on it, it's fine but just a bit slow. Just for basic things it works. For the size and price, once it's set up, it's good.

Fairly good product. It does not measure up to its own claims. It failed to transfer Microsoft 365 from the old computer to the new. So, useful but do not expect it to be as all-encompassing as claimed

It did what it was designed to do, but getting there wasn't exactly an easy process. First, there wasn't a software license key included in the packaging. So went to their online chat, and after 20 minutes or so of "oh, it has to be there somewhere" they finally believed me and generated one for me. Got it installed, and then my computers couldn't find each other on the WIFI. Went to their special chat for transfer problems, and their tech got that fixed and got the transfer started. Then, about 10 minutes into it, got a "network problem" error. Followed the steps, and didn't fix it. So canceled, put both laptops in the same room as the router, and let it run overnight. Same result. Was about to give up and buy one of their USB cables, when I found the option for using an external hard drive. Did that, and it finally ran the way it was supposed to. Was it worth it? Yes, as I HATE having to reconfigure and reinstall all my programs. But not as good as it should have been.

Works well if you're copying a very basic PC
Reviewed on www.bestbuy.com·Fred
I bought 3 copies of PCmover to copy 3 PCs. The first two moves were perfect. When I booted up the new PCs they looked and worked just like the respective old PCs.
The third PC was a problem. When the copy completed the new PC would not boot. After a couple tries, the PC offered me several options for trying to comlete the boot. The only option that would result in a boot-up was to reset to the "last good configuration." When that boot completed I found that only files had been copied...no Start Menu, no apps, no Desktop. I called LapLink support for help (you can't re-run a copy...it
s a one-time deal). I gave control of my PC to the tech rep and she made a bunch of adjustments and uninstalls, then kicked off the copy process again. She ended the call by telling me to reboot the new PC when the copy completed. I ended up in the same no-boot situation I had been in the first time. I've asked for a refund for this copy of PCmover but LapLink has not responded.

This is a very valuable utility to move software to a new PC, but beware of two critical items: 1) Many software programs are locked to the hardware of your old PC. You will need activation codes, serial numbers or other information to be able to use your programs on the new PC. Be SURE that you have determined all license data on the old pc and tested all software on the new PC before trashing the old PC. 2) Install PC Mover on both PC's while they are still connected to Internet! Check for latest version and install it BEFORE trying to connect the two PCs. Once the newest version is installed on BOTH PCs then disconnect from the internet. You may need to leave your NEW PC connected to the web before it will allow going forward.
Once you have met all the restrictions and have the latest software let it transfer and all will be ok - EXCEPT for moving software licenses to the new PC

I used clonezilla on a live linux ventoy usb to migrate the os to a larger drive. it takes 2 drives to successfully transfer everything i used 2 USB drives, but I suspect a 2.5 sata III would have worked as well and lastly the free version niubi partition manager comes in handy to resize the 128gb to the full new drive size.
